Bacillus coagulans travels inside a protective spore coat that stomach acid can't break, then germinates into live bacteria in the intestine.

The science behind the ingredients
In a 2021 Kansas State University study, dogs given 1 billion CFU a day of Bacillus coagulans digested significantly more of their food's energy and organic matter than dogs given none (Acuff and Aldrich, Journal of Animal Science, 2021). Every scoop of FloraMax™ delivers 2 billion CFU.
In healthy adult dogs, the prebiotic FOS increased beneficial bifidobacteria and lowered faecal ammonia, a compound behind smelly stools (Swanson and colleagues, Journal of Nutrition, 2002).
These are studies of the ingredients, not trials of FloraMax™ itself. The 2021 study used strain GBI-30 of Bacillus coagulans, the same species as Lactospore®.

CFU stands for colony-forming units, the number of live bacteria able to multiply. No fillers, carriers, empty calories, artificial flavours, colours or preservatives.

How much to give
Dogs
1 level scoop (3 g) per 10 kg
A 20 kg dog gets 2 level scoops. 60 dog servings in a 180 g tub, 100 in a 300 g tub.
Cats
⅓ level scoop (1 g) per 10 kg
A large 10 kg cat gets a third of a scoop. Smaller cats need less: a light sprinkle does it.
Once or twice a day. Give it twice a day while a tummy settles or during a course of antibiotics, then once a day to keep things steady.
Keep it two hours apart from any medication, antibiotics included, so the medicine doesn't hit the good bacteria.
How to give it
Sprinkle FloraMax™ over your pet's meal. Or mix one level scoop with an equal amount of water into a purée and stir it in. A free scoop comes in every tub.

How soon will I see a difference?
Give FloraMax™ every day for at least 3 weeks. That's how long it took Lindy Nowell to see "a huge improvement" in a dog with EPI (exocrine pancreatic insufficiency) after switching to FloraMax™.
Does FloraMax™ stop diarrhoea?
Yes. FloraMax™ firms up loose stools by restoring good gut bacteria and adding pumpkin fibre, which soaks up excess water in the gut. Diarrhoea with blood, repeated vomiting or lethargy, or diarrhoea lasting more than 48 hours, needs a vet the same day.
Does FloraMax™ help with constipation?
Yes. Pumpkin fibre adds moisture and bulk to hard stools. The prebiotics feed the bacteria that keep bowels moving. Make sure your pet drinks enough water, since fibre needs water to work.
Can I give FloraMax™ with antibiotics?
Yes. Antibiotic time is one of the best times to use it. Start with the first antibiotic dose, give it at least two hours before or after each dose and keep going after the course ends to rebuild the gut flora.
Why a powder instead of chews or capsules?
A powder needs nothing to bind it, sweeten it or hold it in a shape, so every gram of FloraMax™ is an active ingredient. You can also match the serving exactly to your pet's weight. It disappears into their meal.

Does FloraMax™ have side effects?
