Why start in the first year
A one-year-old dog is biologically equivalent to a 31-year-old human.
That's the finding of a UC San Diego study of Labrador retrievers (Wang et al., Cell Systems, 2020). Dogs do most of their ageing early. Hips, elbows and knees that form under strain carry that strain for life, so NutriFlex® Maintenance gives growing joints the collagen they are built from at the age it counts most.
The science behind the ingredients
In an 8-week trial of 30 dogs, daily collagen hydrolysate reduced stiffness and lameness (Beynen et al., American Journal of Animal and Veterinary Sciences, 2010). A 2024 placebo-controlled trial in 31 dogs with osteoarthritis found that bioactive collagen peptides improved gait and quality of life (PLOS ONE, 2024).
For bone, a 12-month trial found that 5 g of specific collagen peptides a day raised bone mineral density in women with age-related bone loss while the placebo group kept losing it (König et al., Nutrients, 2018).
These are studies of the ingredient class, not trials of NutriFlex® Maintenance itself.

How to give it
Sprinkle the powder over your pet's meal, mix it in or dissolve it in a little warm water or bone broth and pour it over. For fussy eaters, stir it into plain unsweetened yoghurt. Give it at least once a day, every day. It's unflavoured, so it disappears into the bowl.

From what age can my pet take NutriFlex® Maintenance Collagen?
From 8 weeks old. Puppies and kittens take the serving for their current weight and move up a band as they grow.
Should I choose Maintenance or Advanced?
Choose NutriFlex® Maintenance for puppies, kittens, young adults and active or working pets with healthy joints. Choose NutriFlex® Advanced for senior pets and pets already showing stiffness, limping or arthritis. Advanced adds type II collagen, hyaluronic acid and vitamin C for intensive hip and joint care.
How is NutriFlex® Maintenance different from other collagen powders?
NutriFlex® Maintenance is a complete joint formula, not collagen on its own. Every 5 g scoop holds 3,500 mg of collagen, 1,000 mg of gelatin and 500 mg of OptiMSM®. That is over five times the MSM per gram of the other South African pet collagen powders we compared in October 2026. Collagen builds joints. The MSM helps them feel comfortable. It also comes with a measured 5 g scoop and a serving in grams for every weight, from 8-week-old puppies and kittens to giant dogs.
Can cats take NutriFlex® Maintenance Collagen?
Yes. Cats get half a level scoop (2.5 g) a day, so one 250 g tub lasts 100 days. The powder is odourless and mixes into food without changing the taste.
Does it contain, taste or smell of shellfish?
No. NutriFlex® Maintenance contains no shellfish, fish or marine ingredients and has no smell. The collagen and gelatin come from bovine sources.
Can I give NutriFlex® Maintenance with other NutriFlex® supplements?
Yes. Pair it with OmegaMax for omega-3 support for joints, skin and coat, or with DigestiMax for digestion. All 3 go into the same meal.
Is collagen safe for dogs and cats?
Collagen is a food protein and dogs and cats tolerate it well. The one effect pet parents occasionally see is mild loose stools in the first few days. If it happens, halve the serving for a week and build back up.
